Introduction

Checkmark is a benchmarking suite for digital watermarking technologies. Running on Matlab under UNIX and Windows, it provides efficient and effective tools to evaluate and rate watermarking technologies. Checkmark contains some attacks not present in Stirmark. Moreover, it takes the watermark application into account which means that the scores from individual attacks are wheigted according to their importance for a given watermark usage.

Important new classes of tests including:

  • Wavelet compression (jpeg 2000 based on Jasper)
  • Projective transformations
  • Modeling of video distortions based on projective transformations
  • Warping
  • Copy
  • Template removal
  • Denoising (midpoint, trimmed mean, soft and hard thresholding, wiener filtering)
  • Denoising followed by perceptual remodulation
  • Non-linear line removal
  • Collage
In addition the following known test classes are re-programmed from Stirmark and included:
  • Cropping
  • Flip
  • Rotation
  • Rotation-Scale
  • FMLR, sharpening, Gaussian filtering
  • Random bending
  • Linear transformations
  • Aspect ratio
  • Scale changes
  • Line removal
  • Color reduction
  • JPEG compression

Checkmark has been developped by Shelby Pereira from Prof. Thierry Pun's Computer Vision Group at the the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Other people who contributed to the benchmark are Sviatoslav Voloshynovskiy, Maribel Madueño, Stéphane Marchand-Maillet and Prof. Thierry Pun.

Summary of Checkmark Results

The results are listed as a function of the application. Numbers quoted are the percentage of correct detections. N/A indicates that data is unavailable, or the technology is not applicable to the application.
