[WM]: RST invariant image watermarking

Hi Watermarkers

I'm wondering whether or not there is any scope at all for RST invariant watermarking schemes that are not covered by the well
known commercial patents from the last century (1990's to be more precise)?

There are a number of patents with very wide claims on rotation and/or scale invariant watermarks. Then there are the patents
which seem to rather comprehensively cover embedded alignment templates and their detection by autocorrelation (or its Fourier
equivalent i.e. Fourier power spectrum and power spectrum peaks).

So, is there really any point in starting a research project, if from the outset is will be blocked from commercial exploitation?

 JJ
