I was pleased with the application mentioned in this BBC article:

User takes a photo of the printed advertisement with a cell phone which decodes web page addresses or other personalized material
that were embedded in the image with a watermark.

I think we can generalize such applications as "metadata binding" (which was promoted as a promising application of watermarking by
Professor Delp of Purdue University at his talk in MMSEC 2004).

PS: The article refers to the information hiding in this scenario as steganography. But I would rather call it watermarking as the
process of taking a picture with a cell phone camera would most probably act similar to an active adversary.
