[WM]: Why do watermarking algorithms develop in image than in audio?

Hi all,
I have some wonders in watermarking field:

1. why do watermarking algorithms develop in image
than  in audio? 
2. How can I measure (evaluate) the effect of
watermarking algorithm (in image and audio). If you
can, share me your documents.
3. How is the watemarking applied in the practice?
Tell me more applications besides authentication,
secret information communication.
