[WM]: security of watermarks
hello watermarkers,
i'm currently writing my thesis on the topic "analysis of a watermarking and content security solution for a digital video archive".
i've been evaluating different watermarking products and all the manufactures promise that watermarking is THE solution to protect
digital media.
i'm actually not so sure about that;-)
true, a watermark cannot be removed unless you modify the data in such way, that the quality suffers and the data is of no use
anymore.
but what about the security aspect? as far as i understood, a watermark can be regarded as a pseudo-random-noise, generated by a
key. But any key (and any noise) can be cracked, right? How difficult would be it be or how time consuming to find out the key and
the noise pattern?
What do you reckon?
Any help is appreciated.
cheers,
Uschi Krause
