FULL TIME PhD POSITION, ANALYSIS OF PHYSIOLOGICAL SIGNALS FOR AFFECTI= VE COMPUTING, UNIVERSITY OF GENEVA, SWITZERLAND
CONTEXT
The CVML - Computer Vision and Multimedia Laboratory (http://vision.u= nige.ch) and its Multimodal Interaction Group
(http://vision.unige.ch/MMI) are= looking for a PhD student in the field of physiological signals analysis and=
human-computer interaction. The general goal of the project is to use= information derived from non-invasive physiological
measurements to b= etter taylor computer interfaces.
The CVML conducts research in stochastic signal/image processing, dat= a-hiding, content-based multimedia indexing and retrieval,
multimodal interacti= on. Research is sponsored by various organisms (Swiss, European, private)= , and is conducted within the
Computer Science Center of the University of Gen= eva
(http://cui.unige.ch) which hosts about 150 researchers.
Within the CVML, the Multimodal Interaction Group is interested in de= veloping various forms of non-standard interaction:
audio-haptic (for visually= impaired persons), and using physiological signals (brain-computer interaction= , affect-based
interaction). Work is performed in cooperation with vari= ous other teams, within and outside of Switzerland.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate should hold a MSc degree in computer/engineering = science, with strong emphasis on: statistical signal
processing, analysis and= classification, preferably on physiological signals such as EEG, ECG,= EMG; audio/image/video
processing and analysis.
The position is full-time, and includes participation to the teaching= activities of the Computer Science Department (roughly 1
day/week or less on ave= rage).
Starting date is as soon as possible.
Due to the international character of the laboratory, English is usua= lly used as a working language; good knowledge of written
and spoken English is m= andatory. French is the spoken language in Geneva. Knowledge of French will be = an asset; otherwise
it is expected that the hired person would learn French in = a reasonable amount of time in order to participate to the teaching
act= ivities.
Geneva (http://www.geneva.ch) is a city noted for its quality of life= and international character. About a third of Geneva
residents are foreig= ners; this is reflected in the composition of University of Geneva's population= (http://www.unige.ch).
France is just a few miles away, and most Euro= pean cities just a few hours away be it by train of plane.
