RE: [WM]: Transformation Selection
In my opinion, there are a number of reasons to transform a work from the time/space domain into some other domain prior to
watermark embedding and detection. One reason is for computational efficiency.
It may be easier to apply a particular watermark in one domain. If the transformation is linear, then anything that can be done in
one domain can also be done in the original domain, but it might be more complicated. A second reason is that the work may have
some properties in the transformed domain that the watermarker wants to exploit. For example, transforming into a perceptually
uniform domain would allow more control over the fidelity of the watermark.
I think the choice of domain alone is not sufficient for assessing the properties of the watermarking algorithm. We need to look at
the watermarking algorithm and the properties of works in the transformed domain and how the two interact.
