Doctoral (PhD) Positions in the field of Content-based Multimedia Information Retrieval and Management

Context:
The Viper group (http://viper.unige.ch), part of the Computer Vision and Multimedia Laboratory (http://vision.unige.ch) , has a long research experience in Content-based Multimedia Information Retrieval (image, video, text, ...). Its activities have led amongst other results to the development of interactive demo systems for content-based video (Vicode http://viper.unige.ch/vicode) and image (GIFT http://viper.unige.ch/gift) retrieval and multimedia (http://viper.unige.ch/cguide) management. We wish to continue these activities.
Description of posts:
Several doctoral positions are open in relation with international and national project funds awarded on the basis of our research activities in the broad field of content-based multimedia information search, retrieval and management. The research performed will form direct contributions in our current and upcoming projects, including ViCode and the Collection Guide (see our main website for details).
The successful applicants should show knowledge and interest in one or many of the following domains:
* Data mining, statistical data analysis
* Statistical learning
* Signal, image, audio processing
* Knowledge engineering
* Indexing, Databases
* Operation research
Starting date: No later than September 2006.
Salary: 48'000CHF per annum (1st year)

Contexte:
Le groupe Viper (http://viper.unige.ch) du Laboratoire de Vision par Ordinateur et Multimédia (http://vision.unige.ch) est spécialisé dans le développement de stratégie de Gestion et Recherche d'Information Multimédia par le Contenu (image, vidéo, texte, ...). Nous avons développé plusieurs systèmes à large échelle dont ViCode pour la vidéo (http://viper.unige.ch/vicode), GIFT pour l'image (http://viper.unige.ch/gift) et le Collection Guide pour la gestion de données multimédia (http://viper.unige.ch/cguide). Nous désirons prolonger ces activités à travers les postes proposés.
Description des postes à pourvoir:
Plusieurs postes de doctorants sont ouverts sur la base de financements obtenus à l'échelle nationale et internationale pour des projets en relation directe avec nos activités de recherche dans le domaine de la Gestion et Recherche d'Information par le Contenu. Les travaux faits durant ces doctorats seront notamment des contributions directes à nos projets en cours ou à démarrer, y compris ViCode et le Collection Guide (voir notre site Web pour plus d'informations).
Les candidatures devront démontrer un intérêt et une connaissance établie dans un ou plusieurs des domaines suivants :
* Data mining, Analyse statistique des données
* Apprentissage statistique
* Tritement du signal, de l'image, de l'audio
* Gestion de la connaissance
* Indexation, base de données
* Recherche operationnelle
Date de début: Au plus tard fin Septembre 2006.
