RE: [WM]: Future of Digital Watermarking

Hello Michael

I beg to differ with the earlier opinion of our watermarking colleague who described the technology as immature. Digital
watermarking has progressed beyond an immature technology and if you follow the below link you will see a number of industry wide
solutions which Digimarc and its partner companies have launched in the marketplace.

http://www.digimarc.com/watermark/about/audio_video.asp

Watermarking future is quite bright with recent inclusion in specifications from SMTPE for Digital Cinema and support for the
technology from key industry giants such as Philips, Dolby and Thompson.

Watermarking as a content identifier for content metadata is on the rise and will be deployed by many content owners in the very
near future.

So in my opinion, the technology has a bright future and needs more scientists like you studying new potential applications and
markets which can be served! My best to you in your future study of watermarking.

Hello Michael
Your question is very intresting. My take on the same is watermarking is still very immature. It definitely has a future but stil
far way to go.
Most of the work on watermarking as of now is focussed on images, however practical applicaitons would include video or audio
watermarking. If more attention is diverted to these practical applications watermarking will be very useful.

Hi all,
I was just wondering what people thought was the future of watermarking or does it have one?

Regards,
  Michael
