[WM]: feature extraction using mexican hat wavelet.

hello everyone
this is regarding an IEEE paper titled "A Feature -Based Robust Digital Image Watermarking scheme" IEEE transactions on signal
processing, vol. 51, NO.4, April 2003.

in the second page, there are a few equations(1-4)  i am not able to figure out correctly how to interpret those equations. the
basic idea is to perform mexican hat wavelet scale interaction. i.e they took the difference between mexican hat wavelet of 2
different scales. here they are 2 and 4. the problem is i cant interpret the notation correctly due to which i am not getting the
required result.

i would really appreciate if anyone can help me in this matter.
