[WM]: Watermarking Strength

I have a question regarding watermark strength
 
I read many paper and most of them say that the strenght of the watermark can be increased by increasing the value of Alpha. I dont
understand what it means
 
Another question is i want to know what kind of watermark is embedded in image, is it like a string of 1's and 0's like
11101010100101 , if thats the case how do i increase the strenght of the watermark or apply alpha to it
 
One more question is i dont know what it means by frequency domain.  I mean what is the frequency that we are talking about here or
whose frequency?? If i try to search the only thing that i find is image can be transformed to transform domain using DFT, DCT etc,
but what exactly it means is not clear to me.
 
Any help in these regards would be very helpful
