The Information and System Security (ISS) group is a part of the Philips Research sector Systems & Software . The growing demand of
security technology in systems and services makes that the group is expanding. The topics of the ISS group include DRM (Digital
Rights Management), Copy Management and Protection, Applied Cryptography, Digital Watermarking, Secure and Private Biometrics, as
well as Privacy Enhancing Technologies.
Working in the ISS group means finding a good balance between fundamental research, applied research, and support for
standardization. The group works in very close cooperation with the Philips divisions Consumer Electronics, Semiconductors,
Intellectual Property and Standards, and Medical Systems. The work results in techniques and systems that find their way into
Philips products and international standards.

Candidates are expected to carry out innovative research in the area of information and system security on one of the following
topics:
- Digital Rights Management systems
- Secure System Architectures and Tamper Resistant Hardware/Software implementations
- Privacy Enhancing Technologies
- Identity Management.
The junior scientists are expected to perform independent research, contribute to the patent portfolio, participate in projects, and
communicate their results within Philips as well as towards standardization bodies. External exposure (for example by means of
scientific publications) as well as external collaborations (for example in with universities or in the context of European research
projects) is highly encouraged. In addition, for the more senior positions we expect candidates to lead projects, to contribute to
the group strategy and to interact with the Philips divisions to define research programs.

For the more junior positions we ask a MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or possibly in Physics
or Mathematics. In all cases candidates should have a considerable security component in their education. For the more senior
positions we ask in addition around 5 years of research experience in the security domain.
Candidates need to have strong conceptual and analytical skills and need to be able to form and communicate their own views. They
need to be able to function as part of a team working for customers, which requires a cooperative and customer-oriented attitude.
