[WM]: Self-similarities Stirmark attack

Hello watermarkers,
 
Please can any one explain to me the functionning and the object of the SELF-SIMILARITIES Stirmark attacks.
 
I think that it decomposes the image into different systems but how ! and if the image is not in RGB but  in gray levels only !
