if u use linux
http://packages.debian.org/testing/libdevel/libmpeg-dev
http://www.gerg.ca/software/mpeglib/
http://www.mpeg.org/MPEG/MSSG/
if u use matlab - video and image processing library of video handling functions or image processing library has avi hnadling
functions, in which case u need to convert available format into avi files.
u sud find lot of refereences if u google !!
