[WM]: video watermarking

hi all,
iam planning to work in video watermarking and want to implement some existing algorithms but i have a doubt in mind that whether
MATLAB can be used for implementing some of the algorithms??
kindly suggest me that can i continue using MATLAB 6.1 or should i switch to some other tool.
If any of you have some already tried MATLAB codes then plz. forward it to me .
