Watermarking and encryption are two totally different techniques -- you can't really compare them. Watermarking just allows to
embed some bits of information directly in some mulimedia content; depending on the application these bits might carry e.g.
information about the author, information about the multimedia object or a signature. The watermarked media looks identical to the
unmarked version and can be viewed by anyone. In contrast, cryptography provides confidentiality; that is, only legitimate
receivers can decrypt the media stream. It really depends on the application whether you can use watermarks, encryption or a
combination of both.
